from disc to kindle

if you have an older version of windows the 'auto play' window may not open.
there are instructions further down the page if you need help opening a browser window.

1) plug the kindle into your pc using the usb adapter on your power lead.

2) when you plug the kindle into your pc the 'auto play' window will open

3) click 'open folder to view files'

4) inside are 4 folders,
double click the 'DOCUMENTS' folder to open it, this is where the kindle stores your books.

YOU MUST PUT YOUR BOOKS INTO THE DOCUMENTS FOLDER OR THE KINDLE WILL NOT READ THEM!

5) now pop the disc in the disc drive

6) when the auto play window opens, select 'open folder to view files.

7)in the disc's window you will see a folder for each author on the disc,
  1. double click the author you want, to open the folder
  2. inside are folders for each of the books, double click the book you want
  3. inside are 3 files, the 'mobi' file is your book.

8) now you should have 2 windows open, one for the kindle (the documents folder), one for the disc (with the mobi file ready to move).

9) now simply drag and drop the MOBI file from the disc, into the DOCUMENTS folder in the kindle's window.

you must drag or copy just the MOBI file, and it must go into the kindle's DOCUMENTS folder.

if you drag over the full author folder, the kindle will NOT be able to read or recognise the books.

and if you drop it anywhere but the DOCUMENTS folder, it will NOT be able to recognise or read the books

drag & drop or copy & paste
to drag and drop: hover the mouse pointer over the mobi file, click and hold the left mouse button down and drag the file over into the kindle window, then let go (over a blank space in the window).

you can also copy and paste the file over, right click the mobi file, in the box that opens, select copy. now click inside the box in the kindle (documents) window, find a blank space, right click, and select paste.

older operating systems (older versions of windows)
if the auto play box does not open when you plug in your kindle, and put your disc in the drive, simply click the 'start' icon, bottom left of your screen

select 'computer' from the menu.

in the window that opens, find the kindle in the left hand pane and select it.

open a second window (using the steps above) and select the cd drive.

now just follow the steps above to drag and drop the book (mobi file) onto the kindle's documents folder.

enjoy your books :)
